Combined transport is the ideal solution as a flexible and climate-friendly means of transport to meet today's transport needs. While the railroad takes care of the long haul, trucks can cover the last mile when needed. However, a serious problem makes this more difficult than it sounds: 95% of semi-trailers in use today cannot be lifted by crane, meaning they cannot be transferred from road to rail. The solution to this problem is roadrailLink, or "r2L" for short. Developed by VTG in collaboration with its partner VEGA International, this innovative transshipment and transport technology makes it feasible to lift non-liftable semi-trailers with crane for transfer to the wagon using the technology available at any terminal. In addition, the different track gauge in the Iberian Peninsula had meant that there were no wagons of this type available in the Iberian market. Since February 2024, VTG already has T4000 type Iberian gauge wagons for the transport of semi-trailers.
